In-process probing tackles sources of variation that are inherent to machining, such as tool wear and temperature variation, and providing intelligent feedback to the process as machining progresses.
Reduce scrap, enhance productivity and increase profits

Inspect feature dimensions on-machine
Probes can also be used for in-cycle gauging. Manual inspection relies a lot on operator skill, it is also very time consuming adding up the needed time to remove clamps, transport the part to a CMM, re-fixture the workpiece, account for thermal effects and re-establish datum points before measuring.
In-process verification enables the manufacturer to monitor the CNC machining process of the workpiece, to ensure tolerances have been met, and to apply compensation automatically when needed. It is particularly beneficial with large, expensive workpieces such as molds or large aerospace parts that can be difficult and time-consuming to move.
Benefits of on-machine probing include:
- Reduce the number of scrapped parts
- Increased confidence in unmanned machining
- Adaptive machining, providing process feedback to minimise variation
- Reduced machine downtime awaiting first-off inspection results from CMM
